On the Water

One guess where we are . . .

Yes, we're making the scene at the Newport, RI., boat show ...

There are a lot of boats; but we only came to gawk.

We did take a sunset cruise out across the harbor:

We got a view of Hammersmith, the childhood home of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, and venue of her wedding reception in 1953 when she married John F. Kennedy. The property is named after the home town (Hammersmith, England) of William Brenton, governor of the colony of Rhode Island, who built the original farm in the 1600s. The smaller building on the left, nearer the water, was Jackie's playhouse.

     May peace be with you.

Beautiful photos. September beach vacations are the best.

How lovely! I last sailed on a 27 foot sailboat in 1975. My boyfriend and I sailed from Lanai to Maui to Molokai and back to Oahu. I was so seasick and probably will never sail again.

Even though I lived in the Boston area while growing up our family never went to Newport. For three years I had a business client in Providence and still never made it to Newport.

Looks like I missed something worth seeing.

What fabulous views, and that sunset is pretty fantastic. Looks like you're having a good vacation, Tom. Thanks for the pictures; I'm enjoying all this. :-)

Every year we go to the Newport Boat Show, as we have had a beach house in Newport for 10 years. Yes, we have a sailboat and hubby keeps thinking he will get another larger one. I tell him to keep dreaming. But they're fun to look at.
RI has many beautiful beaches but the state really isn't run well (which can be a problem).
Newport is a fun town. We love it there! Fav restaurant is The Mooring.
After 10 years we decided we had enough of Newport and rented out our beach house and retired (thanks to the rental income!) Sailboat also got retired in exchange for an RV. Lots of other beaches out there. And of course, boat shows.
Glad you had fun.

OMG...no wonder she had that gentle unfamiliar voice. She was a sheltered princess.

Beautiful. What a great way to bask in these remaining days of summer.

Beautiful pictures. Though I often wonder about this nation's (and that region's) fascination ("idolization" I call it) of the Kennedys.

Kids with no education will fail as adults. It is hard to get ahead with a poor education. What can you do to make sure your kids are educated properly? A good answer is homeschooling. Use these tips to homeschool kids well.
