Hello?

Does anyone recall Lionel Richie? He started out in the 1970s with the Commodores, and then went on to a successful solo career. I liked Lionel Richie, even though I was embarrassed to admit it because he was more than a little sappy and syrupy.

But he must have been doing something right. He recorded big hits like "Truly" and "My Love" and the soothing if somewhat monotonous "Say You, Say Me" as well as the more upbeat "Dancing on the Ceiling."

A friend of mine recently put me on to this clip, which I thought was amusing, and serves as an appropriate follow-up to my previous post about the movies. To the tune of one of Richie's other big hits, it brings back memories of  ... okay, Apollo 13 is easy. Then there's Schindler's List, Annie Hall, Goodfellas. Do you know which one is Being John Malkovitch? How about American Beauty? Can you name any of the others?

He also has more recent sucesses including an album in 2009 and a more recent one. Something about his kids not remembering his singing career well so that he wanted to show them....I absolutely despise the movie endless love, but love his duet.

I remember listening to his songs on the radio all the time in the late 70s and early 80s, but not so much lately.

Ok I am bad at snippets. Was that Elvis? I wasn't a Ritchie fan then but appreciate him more today.

Oh myyyyyyyyyy. Now you'll have me on a Lionel Ritchie jag for a while! I'd forgotten about him, but I loved his songs. They're all the kinds of songs I wished men would sing to me, childish romantic that I was/am.
Chicago's Colour My World was another one of those songs, now that I'm thinking of it.

Ho, ho. That is quite clever.
Although...do you ever wonder how some people have so much time on their hands?

Yeah, that's Elvis alright, but apparently not from his movie "Jailhouse Rock." So I dunno.

And yes, the pic. of Richie above is from the cover of the duet CD. It's basically his greatest hits, sung with Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Tim McGaw et al. I esp. like "Stuck on You" with Darius Rucker.

Yes, I do remember him, and I seem to recall enjoying his music. But it's all such a long time ago and my memory is not what it once was.

A life of luxury has destroyed it.

I saw Elvis in Jail House Rock, Planet of the Apes, one of the Pixar animated films, George Clooney, James Bond (Connery) Goodfellas, one of the Woody Allen films with Diane Keaton, John Lennon and many many more. Nice mash up. Oh and Tippie Hedron from 'The Birds' Dianne
