I too wonder if we have truly evolved at all from the days of the horrors of the past. But I did very much enjoy your post, well written and thoughtful. Thank you, Tom. I also see your comments on some of my favorite bloggers, so we are keeping good company together. :-)DJanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07152183871573797791noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626594980028435818.post-89506107979752061252014-06-05T17:36:30.379-04:002014-06-05T17:36:30.379-04:00Thanks for the shout out. I recently read somewhere that for a thousand years the fiercest warriors in Asia were the Tibetans, who today have evolved into pacifists and promoters of peace. Yet they are today without a country because the Chinese conquered them. I'm totally against war but I do want to preserve my freedom. stephen Hayeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17659054447637207734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626594980028435818.post-36007285293690359032014-06-05T17:18:06.685-04:002014-06-05T17:18:06.685-04:00Yes, let us hope so.Yes, let us hope so.Olgahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00692441479616299920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-626594980028435818.post-40835428094770689552014-06-05T14:34:58.407-04:002014-06-05T14:34:58.407-04:00I think things change. You have written a very nice tribute to the greatest generation.

Call me a cock_eyed optimist! but I think the US is a very special place. True we don't do everything perfectly, but that's a very human condition. If you doubt this is the greatest place on earth, talk to an immigrant. I live in an area with one of the highest percentages of immigrants in the US and they are constantly informing me of this fact.

This is my country finest on earth.
